New Delhi: Quick Michael Kasprowicz, who played for Australia in all three formats between 1995-2006, and is now on the board of Cricket Australia, briefly spoke to The Telegraph at the Kotla on Saturday afternoon.
Kasprowicz is now 41, yet looked supremely fit and, to his surprise, was mobbed.
The following are excerpts
His trip to India...
I’m the director of a company, Kaspa Australia, and we have clients who seek inputs for, among other things, strategy. We aim to help in establishing successful relationships between Australian and Indian businesses. This visit is largely in connection with the University of Queensland’s mining school.
Australia’s show (or the lack of it) in this series...
To be successful in India, you need to adapt... From experience, I know it’s not easy... We lost in 1998, lost again in 2001... With experience, however, we won in 2004. Of course, this result has been very disappointing.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Team India...
Your guys, indeed, have done very well.
Shane Watson captaining at the Kotla after being disciplined in the lead-up to the last Test...
But the message has already been conveyed... That there are structures in place and rules to follow... The board endorsed the action taken... Watson came as the vice-captain and, so, had to lead in Michael Clarke’s absence.
Clarke’s injury...
Injuries are part of a sportsman’s career... They’ve got to cope with them. With the Ashes not far off, I hope Clarke will soon be fit... Every injury has a time span for healing. That has to be accepted.
No.1 lesson for Australia from this series...
That you need to adapt and use your skill according to the environment. Success isn’t easy in these parts... Look at Nathan Lyon, the way he’s been bowling today has been a lot different from the way he bowled in the first Test (Chennai).
The most promising fast bowler around...
James Pattinson... He’s got the skill, the energy... Plus, he’s young (22).
Being mobbed nine years after his last appearance in India...
Unbelievable.
Finally, wearing an administrator’s hat after 11 years of representing Australia...
(Laughs) The one difference is that instead of tracksuits, I now wear business suits!
